The imperial palace east garden is advancing to one of my favorite places in Tokyo. It is located reasonably close to Tokyo station on the Marunouchi side. It’s a fantastic place to have a small picnic on the dense grass of the upper grounds.
If you’re interested in the plants in sure you’ll be able to find a reasonable guide. There are also a few buildings on the ground that are of some historic significance.
The park is closed on Mondays and Fridays, except for holidays excluding the emperor’s birthday. It’s free of charge. At the entrance you will get a plastic ticket that you have to return when you leave.
The weather is great today, so there are many people in the park. But it’s still not overcrowded like so many other places. It’s the perfect refugee for an hour long getaway.
